Steps Of The Administrative Model Of Decision- Making
There are five steps of the Administrative Model of Decision- Making. The initial steps of the model is to recognize and define the problem or issue. In this step the administrator recognizes and is aware of the potential difficulties of the problem. The administration defines the problem down in short and long term problem areas. Effective administrators are sensitive to organizational actions and attitudes that do not measure up to the prescribed standards. (pg.32) The recognition and definition of a problem are crucial to deciding and often do not receive adequate attention. The way a problem is conceptualized is important to subsequent analysis and solution. Administrators should be careful not to define problems too quickly and/ or narrowly, as this can restrict options. During the initial stage of process, it is important to place the problem in perspective. If the problems is complex, the solution likewise multi-dimensional by short and long term guidelines. The second stage o f the Administrative Model of Decision-Making is to analyze the difficulties in the existing situation. The administrator will classify the problem into various categories- is the problem new or old? Is the problem generic or unique? Administrators should also obtain all the facts relevant to issue: who, what, why, etc. Answers to these questions provide information to map the parameters of the problem. Peter F.
